Who’s doing the Friday happy dance?!

I started doing it on like, Wednesday, when I  got home around 7:30 in gorgeous sunshine and convinced the BOY to sit out back with me enjoying dinner and some bubbles.

So updates on the week…

I started my new job on Tuesday!  I am commuting, via train, into the city.  The first day was sunny and delightful.  My job went well and I managed to find some delicious kombucha during m lunch break.

Day 2 was raining and gross and indicated that I need to buy some better rain gear.  I was able to find the local coffee shop, which proved very handy : )

But by Wednesday night, the sun was shining…hence our impromptu outdoor dinner.  Thursday was another beautiful day and this spring weather got me feeing like…

I just want to sit outside and drink wine and eat cheese : )

Which I can (and did!)…because the BOY had to work late and I don’t work Fridays.  Can’t remember if I mentioned but I am only working 3 days at my new job while I do my yoga training.

And speaking of yoga training.  I gave myself some slack this week with my yoga goals.  We are supposed to attend 5 classes per week and I wasn’t sure how to make that work with my new commute.  I am still learning about parking and train passes, etc.  We are also supposed to do daily meditation, which I just sort of sucked at. I did get in one day but was interrupted by this guy!

IMG_20160530_073609892 IMG_20160530_073636888

To accompany my new yoga vibe, I decided I needed a short, shaggy, summer hair do.  My hair is still in a bit of hair shock (as is the BOY), but I love that change is in the air!

Although I have no idea how I’m going to put it up for yoga training tonight!

Happy Friday Folks!

May Goals

Get organized for Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) – just getting started but diving right in!

Eat REAL clean – hit or miss! I feel like overall my diet has been clean but you know I dove right into the cake from Sweet Mandy B’s at work yesterday : )

June Goals

So…with the start of teacher training, we are supposed to try to meditate daily (aps allowed) and do 5 practices a week.  We also set a few personal goals.  My thought is that if I want to get the most out of training, I have to commit, so I am making my June goals my YTT goals!

-5 classes per week

-Daily meditation

-Add shoulder openers to each practice

-Eat for energy!

What changes are you making this spring?

What are your summer goals?

Hooray…It’s May!

We have a super exciting month ahead.  But first…the news!

I gave my notice at work this week.  It was sad because I truly like my job and coworkers!   But I’m excited because we are planning to move into Chicago!  Insert cheers and excitement…

We have no details yet, but I will definitely keep ya’ll posted!

For now…I do have some goals to talk about  : )

April Goals

Run 10k in less than 52 minutes

So I decided not to run, but I did run 6.2 miles a few days after the race in just under 54 minutes.

Keep up the workouts!

I started out weak but have really upped the workouts the past two weeks!

Do yoga at home

Although I haven’t been doing a yoga practice, I have added in some yoga reading in prep for next month’s training.

Increase the green and eat clean!

I have definitely increased my greens…each week, I make bags of veggies for the BOY and I and that has made eating them much easier!  I also still eat a lot of chocolate : )

May Goals

Get organized for Yoga Teacher Training (YTT)

Eat REAL clean

Keep up the workouts (mix up cardio and strength)

Try not to freak out with all the big changes in our lives!

Are you excited for May? What are your goals?

April Showers and Goals

I should start by telling you that this week’s new recipes have been fantastic…both make again dishes.  However, the pictures of the final meals are a bit sub par (to put it gently).

I already posted the Thai Chicken with Peanut Sauce recipe, so you know what I’m talking about.  Luckily, I also added in a bunch of selfies with my new adorable haircut.  LOL!  Not sure if that will help again today…

But just in case…This recipe is another crockpot goodie that I made on Monday.  It’s easy, healthy (thanks Skinny Taste), and versatile.

Who doesn’t love buffalo chicken?!  My thought was that we could make rice bowls filled with chicken, cheese, rice, and veggies.  I was, of course, planning to add some avocado.

What actually happened was that the BOY made tacos and I forgot to buy an avocado…womp, womp!  I was bummed but not sad enough not to enjoy this delicious chicken.

So now that we got that out of the way…don’t judge my pics, but try this recipes because you can do anything with the chicken…bowls, salad, wraps, etc.  Mmm!!!  Moving on now to goals.  It’s April, which for us brought spring showers.  April does not know what it wants weather wise and it’s been alternating between rain and sunshine all day!  I had a fantastic morning (deets to come) and then sat at home doing some work, loving on Cooper, and waiting for our garage door to be fixed.

March Goals

Workout 5 days a week-GOAL MET!  I definitely got back into my workout routine of strength, yoga, and running.

Start practicing more yoga at home- Still working on it…

Update my blog- There is much to do and I did none of it.  Let’s call this one a Fail!

Unplug and be present! Rocked it and loved it!

April Goals

Run 10k in less than 52 minutes

Keep up the workouts!

Do yoga at home

What are your spring goals?

Any April Fool’s jokes?

Crockpot Buffalo Chicken (for lettuce wraps or rice bowls)

From Skinny Taste

  • 24 oz boneless skinless chicken breast
  • 1 celery stalk
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 16 oz fat free low sodium chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup hot cayenne pepper sauce (I used Frank’s)

In a crock pot, combine chicken, onions, celery stalk, garlic and broth (enough to cover your chicken, use water if the can of broth isn’t enough). Cover and cook on high 4 hours.

Remove the chicken from pot, reserve 1/2 cup broth and discard the rest. Shred the chicken with two forks, return to the slow cooker with the 1/2 cup broth and the hot sauce and set to on high for an additional 30 minutes. Makes 3 cups chicken.

March On In

It’s the first day of March and ours came in with a snow storm and sunshine!  Don’t we just have the oddest weather?!

IMG_20150315_140115671 IMG_20150315_140122588 IMG_20150315_140129271

It’s also my dad’s birthday!  Happy birthday Dad!!!

To be honest, I am ready for a new month.  I struggled throughout February to really find my rhythm.  Towards, the end I got back into my groove, and I am ready to March On In to this next month…hopefully surrounded by spring weather!

February Goals

Change my name…Done!  I am officially a Misses!  I still have a few other forms to fill out but all of the important stuff is done.  Now, I just need to practice my signature.

Cook some new recipes…Ok, so I haven’t challenged myself in the Polynesian realm (yet), but let me just tell you that my Island Pork Tenderloin and Mustard Chicken are two of our new favorite dinners.

Create a budget and bucket list…Done and Done!

Maintain my vacation Zen…This was this month’s fail!  I started the month with the Bora Bora blues and although I have finally snapped out of my funk.  It was a tough adjustment back to the real world : )

March Goals

Workout 5 days a week (this means strength and 10k training)

Start practicing more yoga at home (I’m practicing my press to handstands and I love it!)

Update my blog (there is much to do!)

Unplug and be present!

The List

As we enter move through February and I re-acclimate to my ‘real life’, it’s only fitting that I begin to think about the year ahead.  In the weeks I’ve been home, there have been a lot of decisions to be made about this upcoming year.  Should I sign up for the NYC marathon lottery?  What continuing ed should I take? Where do we want to travel?  Tons of awesome options in 2016, but sadly I can’t do them all.  Randomly, my coworker and I started talking about vision boards this week.  Although I don’t have the time and energy to actually make a vision board, it’s a great way to to prioritize my goals for the year ahead and then create a bucket list.  I love to use my ‘nothing book’ to do this by paper which then allows me to share the final (and edited) version on the blog as my 2016 bucket list.  For some reason, this list has taken a bit longer to come together than usual.  I finally just hit post this morning with the understanding that it’s a ‘work in progress’…kinda like me!

2016 Bucket List

Build More Strength – Since I won’t be working out with my trainer as consistently (see item 1 RE: budget), it will be up to me to strength train on my own

Bike More!  Drive Less!

Eat Less Packaged and More Real Food

What are you goals for 2016?

Have you ever made a vision board?

Ia Orana!!!

Ia Orana (pronounced yo-rah-nah)

Which must be said in an adorable sing songy voice!

This post was supposed to be done and ready to go while we were gone, but I just wasn’t that pulled together and organized.  Now that we are back and working through some serious jet lag (3 flights in a 24 hours…or something like that), I have a few minutes to update the pictures and finish the post.  And tell you that our trip was absolutely incredible.  It exceeded all our expectations and we loved EVERY minute!

Leaving our last island, Bora Bora…

January Goals

Exercise Often– Goal Met!  Prior to vacation, I hit the weights and got my runs in.  Best part was having the hubs by my side!

And we had tons of opportunities to exercise in the Ocean!  I finally got to try stand up paddle boarding!

Keep my Eating On Pointe– Once we got past the fry party on the first day of the year, I did a good job of keeping my meals clean!

Get Organized (for our trip and 2016)- So I was totes organized for our trip, or at least as organized as one can be when heading half way around the world to a place they’ve never been.  As for 2016…well, that’s another story.  2016 bucket list to come…

Create and Appreciate Expected and Unexpected Adventures- We made every day memorable and amazing on our trip!  We enjoyed the views and relaxation, the food, and all the cultural experiences.  Believe it or not, our trip went slowly, which was fantastic!

February Goals

Change my name…Ugh!  I just have to change 2 letters and I know it will be a HUGE headache!

Cook some new recipes…we loved the Polynesian cuisine and can’t wait to try to replicate some recipes at home.

Create a budget and bucket list!

Maintain my vacation Zen!

Honeymoon updates coming…if you want them (or haven’t seen my Insta pics).

How was your first month of 2016?  What are you goals for this month?

The Year of Letters

Two big events marked this year for me and both involve adding some extra letters to my signature!

First off…I took my pediatric specialization exam in March and found out in June that I passed, adding the letters PCS behind PT to my professional title.

And then…I became a MRS!!!  Although I haven’t officially changed my name (it’s coming after the honeymoon), that will change two other letters in my last name.  It’s like I’m an entirely new person.  Well…sort of!

A mix of these external name changes and a year dedicated towards taking care of my mental and physical health has made this year remarkable!  I am grateful for every moment!

2015 Bucket List

Set and follow a budget (for real!)- Oh man!  I swear I am super organized, but have totally struggled with this!  We were all over the place with some months being better (or worse) than others.  Definitely something for the newlyweds to work on in 2016!

Pass my test– Woo hoo!  All of that library time paid off.  I am now a Pediatric Clinical Specialist (PCS), which has me smiling from ear to ear!

Have a fun stress free wedding day– Done!  It was the most incredible and memorable day!  It was stress free and full of love and excitement. I swear my heart is still full of happiness from sharing this special day with the people who mean the most to us.

Stay healthy– Two big sinus infections took me down, but the second wasn’t nearly as bad as the first and other than that, I would say it was a nice and healthy year.

Do a triathlonThe decision has been made that this won’t be a big racing year…so no triathlon.  And I am A-okay with that!  I am broadening my horizons a bit with exercise and doing tons of yoga!  This decision is helping me feel more balanced and less stressed, and we’ll just have to see what 2016 holds for races and tri’s.

Feel confident in a bikini- I wore my bikini a few times this summer with more confidence than I have had in years!  As always, there is work to do, but feeling happy with myself on the beach was a HUGE accomplishment!

Continue to build muscle strength– I have definitely gotten stronger this year. I see it in my yoga class and at work, which is really important to me.

Keep my skin healthy– Success!  My focus on eating clean and drinking water, plus regular facials has paid off!

Be present– I have been soaking in every moment, big or small and have appreciated EVERY moment this year!  I feel so lucky and grateful!

Teach more yoga/take yoga trainings- I think this may end up being more of a 2016 goal. I’d love to do a yoga retreat AND my adult yoga certification.  I was able to talk about kids yoga on a Podcast, which is something I never would have even dreamed of in January.

Read good books– Check!  I started the year as a reading machine, took a mid year break and then picked back up.  I’m also looking for suggestions…got any?

Give back and volunteer- Ugh! Major Fail here!  I have been donating food, money, and clothes, but not as much of my time as I would like.

Other Second Half Highlights

Acro Workshop

Thanksgiving in New York

Arlington Million

Door County

Tons of lunches and dinners with our friends!

I Don’t Remember the Last Time I Slept In

The problem with being a go getter is that I’m always going and getting : )  And this was definitely a month year of on the go!

This morning was no exception.  Since the BOY declared last night that his car was stuck in the drive way and that we would both be working from home today, I set my alarm extra early.  Note: I don’t have the type of job where one can ‘work from home’.   I awoke not knowing what to expect and when I peaked out the window, I saw my neighbors car stuck half in the road and the other half in the driveway.  I really wanted to get in a run this morning because A) I have not been doing much running and B) We honeymoon next month.

Sure enough…I got the BOY’s car stuck in the slush when it was WAY darker than the picture above and thankfully our neighbor came by to assist in getting me unstuck.  We then got my car out in 1 1/2 tries and I was free to zoom off to the gym.  I did a 35 minute interval workout on the treadmill followed by abs.

It was totally worth the extra work (see sweaty tomato faced smile above for proof!).  With just a few days left in 2015, there will definitely be time dedicated to wrapping up the year, but for now, let’s focus on the month behind and the month ahead…

December Goals

Keep running (and sign up for a spring race)- I didn’t run as much as I wanted this month due to a sinus infection and colder, darker weather.  I did have a beautiful Christmas morning run though.  I am all signed up for a 10k in April and a possible half marathon in early May.

Stay healthy– Major Fail!  I came home from Thanksgiving with a cough and spent about 2 weeks with a sinus infection. Boo!

Get bikini ready…honeymoon here we come!- Strength and yoga have been on pointe, but my nutrition was on more of a holiday schedule.

Slow down, stay grounded, and appreciate the last month of 2015- Ahh! Although work was crazy busy, I can say that I made sure to have me time and family time…and Ahhh time!

January Goals – Honeymoon Here We Come…

Exercise Often

Keep my Eating On Pointe

Get Organized (for our trip and 2016)

Create and Appreciate Expected and Unexpected Adventures

How are you wrapping up the year?

Into and Out of It

Hey all!  Sorry I’ve been gone a bit.

The truth is that sometimes I’m a little more into blogging than others.   True for a lot of things, right?!

Plus, the BOY and I just spent the most wonderful Thanksgiving in New York with my family!

And we’ve been busy getting back into work and life since we got back.  On top of that, I’ve also been a bit out of it. I returned from NY with a terrible cough and although I feel okay, I had little to no voice and was exhausted from all the coughing.  We’ve gotten back into our life groove and so now it’s time to get back into my blogging groove.  Can you believe, there is only one month of goals left in 2015?  No pressure!

November Goals

1. Figure out a fall/winter workout schedule.

I’m working on the details.  It is so tough for me to move my cardio indoors, but the BOY and I have been able to get to the gym together Tuesday mornings (we initially tried Thursdays = not so good).  I’ve also been able to get to some AM yoga classes, which has been AWESOME!

2. Cook, Bake, and Explore New Recipes

I think you probably noticed more recipes this month (especially compared with the last few).  A few favorites include Chocolate Cherry Oatmeal Cookies, Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken, and Cheesey Stuffed Sourdough Loaf.

3. Clean/Organize our house.

We spent Halloween weekend doing a massive clean.  Our kitchen and office benefitted the most.  Although we still have some work to do in the garage, our house looks and feels better already.

4. Reconnect – I feel like I’ve been very wedding-centric recently, so I look forward to spending that time hanging with friends and family.

The best part of life!  It was a fun month getting together with friends and celebrating Thanksgiving with our family!

December Goals

Keep running (and sign up for a spring race)

Stay healthy

Get bikini ready…honeymoon here we come!

Slow down, stay grounded, and appreciate the last month of 2015

What are you goals?

What are you into and out of this month?

We Now Return to Our Regularly Scheduled Program

Happy November!

Happy Day Light Savings!

Happy Sunday!

The time change had me up earlier than usual this morning, but it worked out well because I made it to the 8am yoga class. I swear I say this every year that this is the only day of the year that I make it to the early class on the weekend.

I started my practice feeling a bit antsy, but easily calmed into the rhythm of the class.  It was hot, sticky, hard, and amazing…everything I needed this morning!  I came home to scoop up the BOY for a few errands.  We took our ketubah (marriage document as seen in photo below) to be framed and explored pots and knives at Sur La Table.

We came home with Potbelly for lunch to watch the first half of the Bears game.  I rehydrated with a Kombucha that I picked up in Door  County.  It was delicious, and I was sad that I didn’t buy more.

The rest of the day was a lot like yesterday (without the trick or treaters and hard cider).  Cleaning…cleaning…and more cleaning!  We attacked our third bedroom for hours sorting through papers, taking down a desk that we haven’t used in years, and totally reorganizing the entire room.  The only things missing are some curtains and perhaps my bike on a trainer.  I’m debating turning this room into my winter yoga/workout room with my marathon posters for inspiration.

The BOY also redid (again) or spice cabinet.

By the time the sun went down, we were both exhausted.  A bit sore from yesterday’s workout combined with the fatigue of walking countless heavy boxes down a flight of stairs to recycle/donate.  The BOY decided that he wanted pizza and I was thrilled to dig into my leftover Thai food.  The chili I had planned on making was long forgotten.  The BOY opened  a bottle of wine from our new wine fridge and we settled in to watch the World Series.  Note: I am cheering for the Mets in support of my Dad who is a long time loyal Mets fan : )  It seems that the time change is tough on everyone, but the hardest for Cooper who couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t fed dinner hours ago and is now fast asleep!

With just two months until the end of the year and about 10 weeks until we head to paradise for our honeymoon, it’s time to get back into my clean eating and exercise routine!  I set one (easy) goal for October and that was to enjoy my wedding and appreciate every moment.  Although at this point, it seems like a dream, I remember feeling every minute deeply and constantly thinking ‘Wow! I’m so happy, I love this, this is so special!’

Luckily, there are plenty of amazing pictures to document the day!  Now that our house is in order, it feels good to get back into our routine.  Hello…I have tomorrow off with not much to do.  Hooray!  I can’t wait and have been pinning recipes like crazy!  Along those lines, my November goals are to get back into the swing of things…well, the new married life swing of thing : )

November Goals

1. Figure out a fall/winter workout schedule.

2. Cook, Bake, and Explore New Recipes – I have pinned a bunch of new stuff and am inspired by my rediscovery of the Food Network to try some new, hearty, fall recipes…Mmm!

3. Clean/Organize our house.

4. Reconnect – I feel like I’ve been very wedding-centric recently, so I look forward to spending that time hanging with friends and family.
