So we made it through January!
What do you think?
Is 2013 all that you wanted it to be???
I hope so! If not, there is plenty of time to get started on your new year’s intentions! I woke up this morning to another sunny day with a fresh coat of snow covering my car. The first thought that ran through my head was…I wish I had snow shoes! I would go again this morning exploring the forest preserve by our house.
Instead, I headed off to my weekly Hot Yoga class. I stayed up late watching the Indiana Victory last night, so I didn’t make it to my usual 10am class. As I was walking in for the 11:30 class, I bumped into my Mom and a friend who had just finished their class. It was fun to chat about yoga and homemade energy bars, and my Mom mentioned that she was jealous that she missed yesterday’s snow shoeing adventure.
After class, the BOY and I made a quick run to the crazy crowded grocery store. Being that it is Superbowl Sunday, I was not in the least surprised. We are spending the evening at my best friend’s house and had a few last minute things to pick up. It is no secret that I am a huge fan of football, and even though I have no strong feelings about the winner of tonight’s game, I am looking forward to a good match. It is tough to talk Superbowl without bringing up food, so I want to refer you to THIS POST dedicated to football food and the 2012 Beer Bowl.
I did make hummus and a new dip for tonight (pictured above with recipe to come). However, we are doing something a little different. We are straying away from traditional football food and having Indian food for dinner. My best friend and I have been talking about getting together for Indian for weeks, so we thought it would be fun to combine the two events.
It occurred to me this morning that it is already February, and therefore, time to reflect on the previous month.
The month went by quickly, but really was a lot of fun. I started the year with a clear head and some healthy soup! I was nominated for the Liebster Award and shared some new info and old pictures.
I spent a bunch of time in the kitchen whipping up some healthy recipes…
Chickpea Butternut Squash and Red Lentil Stew
Slow Cooker Turkey and Bean Chili
Along with a few sweet Treats…
And the BOY and I totally robbed Yogurtland! On the activity front, I have been going to CrossFit and getting creative with my lack of gym membership by running at the indoor track.
I didn’t write any specific goals for January, but really just tried to find balance, stay centered and stress free, and return to a healthier lifestyle mentally and physically. So far, I’d say that I am on the right track, and look forward to carrying this good feeling on to February.
February Goals

-Try some classes (ie Bikram yoga)

You can read my 2013 Bucket List for an entire year’s worth of intentions.
How was your Sunday? What are your February goals?
I am sooo excited for you to run Chicago!! Have you ever taken a Bikram class!? YOU will love it if you haven’t. Awesome goals, my goal for the month is to finish my half marathon in one piece! 😉
I have never done Bikram and can’t wait to try it! I’m sure I will blog all about it. That is a great goal and I can’t wait for you to accomplish it!
Glad you had a nice weekend. It went by too quickly, imo! Always does. 🙂 Bikram yoga will be interesting, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it when you do go.
There is a new studio in Palatine I am interested in checking out. I will definitely let you know what I think! I can’t believe I woke up to more snow on my car this morning!!!
Sounds like your 2013 is off to a great start! Hooray for Chicago Marathon! I’m also excited to hear what you think about Bikram. I’ve taken a true Bikram class a couple times as well as hot yoga at CorePower, and I’m a much bigger fan of the latter 🙂
This month is all about de-stressing for me 🙂
Have a great week!
Great goal…especially since you have such an active year ahead of you. I think that my Hot Yoga studio is very similar to Core Power and I LOVE it. I am interested in seeing the differences between Bikram for sure.
I need to try more classes too. I’m getting so bored with my routine. I’m actually going to yoga after work, so I am trying to change things for the better!
I love yoga after a long day at work!
Enjoy and let me know what other classes you discover!
Ah snowshoeing is the best! I wish I owned some of my own too! Looks like a stellar weekend and this is the 2nd blog I’ve seen Indian food on today! I’m going to be making some Indian spiced grubbed tonight for sure now!
Ohh! I can’t wait to see what you make. I am about to dig into leftovers right now!
I have fond memories of the Chicago Marathon (not running it, of course!) from when I was in school–how awesome that you’re going to run it! I have slight runner’s envy, even though I’m hating the thought of marathons right now. 😉
I’m behind in blog reading (surprise, surprise), so I’m going to have to go back and catch up on your CrossFit adventure. I’m intrigued, though I’m not convinced it’s for me.
Sounds like the perfect weekend–glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you! I am hoping to sign up today. Woo Hoo! Although it’s hard to even think about running 26.2 miles with all the white snow right now : )
[…] ‘Tall Paul’ this morning, but I had no idea what that meant! I brushed off my car for the third morning in a row (thinking again how cool it would be if I had snow shoes) and trekked off to the […]
i love bikram! the first time i tried it i thought i was going to die. but then i started going more and actually got stronger which made me enjoy it so much more! and avoiding sugars is hard but once you do it and see how much better you feel youll love it! when i have sugar now (holidays or when i bake) i literally feel like crap because you see how much it affects you, crazy stuff
I would believe that! I think that when I am not eating sugar, I don’t crave it as much and it is easier to pass on when I bake. We have some cookies in the house now and I have been fine without them. Although we did make a trip to Yogurtland for free FroYo : )
[…] you just said that your February goal is to cut down on added sugars and now you’re about to dedicate an entire post to sweets and […]
If January is any indication of your 2013, I predict your 2013 is going to be a year to remember! 🙂
Would you like to trade places next weekend? You can work my shifts and I’ll do hot yoga, chat about yoga and homemade energy bars with my mom and her friend, and then eat Indian food with my best friend!
Best of luck with your February goals! I keep trying to figure out balance in my life too!
Thank you! I’m not available to change shifts because I am off to Florida this weekend. Does that make you hate me more? Ha ha! I really hope you are right with your prediction!
Aw man! I’ll forgive you eventually! I’m glad I at least get to read about it! 🙂
