Awesome August



It’s crazy for me to think that this month and the summer are coming to an end!  I know I say that every month, but I think August just flew by.  The main reason is that we were soo busy!  I thought it would be fun to recap what an Awesome August we had before diving into next month’s goals.  And, I wanted to show off this super cool medal that I just got in the mail for my 3rd place finish in last month’s triathlon.

Even with a few different celebrations and some tempting sweets around (I’m talking about you Oreo Peanut Butter Pie), I did a good job sticking with my healthy habits.  I did, of course, enjoy some treats (this time I’m referring to you Fro-Yo), but in moderation, and I was able to follow my hunger cues and not eat until I was stuffed.  This is definitely a step in the right direction (or a Non Scale Victory as my Mom calls them)!



August Goals

Avoid MORE white flour and sugar in an attempt to shrink my middle

    -If I had to grade this, I would give myself a ‘C’.  I am more conscious about it, but I am still eating too much white stuff!

Make yoga (classes and home practice) a priority to keep stress levels in check

    -I have been getting to yoga classes, and I did some meditating on my own up in Door County.

Sign up for some local road races

    -I broke my toe, so I missed out on the Rugged Maniac, but I did love the Urban Assault ride.  As my toe continues to heal, I will hopefully get into some more races.

Get moving on vacation!

    -I biked every day and loved every moment of it! That’s an A!


September Goals

This month it is all about getting back to the behaviors that keep me feeling my best, so I am keeping it nice and simple!


-Continue with the Healthy Habits Recharged with focus on avoiding white flour and sugar, following hunger cues, and slowing down to chew

-Ride a distance PR on my bike (anything over 52 miles)

-Stay calm, chill, zen…whatever you want to call it.



I will be off hiking/camping with some friends this weekend.  When I get back, there will definitely be stories (and recipes) to share.  I hope ya’ll enjoy your 3 day weekend!

  1. What a great medal! You did great with your goals. I think I’d give myself a B for my August goals….but a C- for my summer goals overall. The last few months flew by and I didn’t get to accomplish as much as I wanted at all.

    • I completely agree! The summer went by way to fast and I felt like I was playing catch up. I am determined to be way more present and accountable this fall and my camping trip certainly helped with that. There is nothing like good friends, fun food, and nature to get your head in the right place. Hope you had a great weekend!

  2. Have you ever thought about signing up for the Door County Century ride? It’s next weekend, and they’ve got 35, 50, 70, and 100 mile rides. My fingers are still crossed that I get a bike this spring, so hopefully I can attempt at least one of those distances next year!

    Looks like you did awesome with your goals this past month! I really need to get on the ball and set myself some goals. I think once half marathon season is over for me, I will definitely be doing that, as I’ll need something to keep me accountable and exercising!

    No really big plans for this weekend–we’re going to hang out with a few friends tomorrow, but after that we’ve got a lot of free time to fill! Have fun camping! 🙂

    • Thanks for the ‘Awesome’ comment! Camping was incredible as I have returned with mosquito bites and stories to share : ) I have heard of the DC Century and I would love to make that OR the DC tri happen next summer. You definitely need to keep your eyes posted for a bike (perhaps at a a bike exchange this fall) and ride it next year. I hope that you had a fantastic weekend, and I look forward to seeing your fall goals!
