One of my favorite places is the bookstore. I love to look through the cookbooks. I have way too many already but can never resist a book with great pictures. I happened to find Tosca Reno’s Eat Clean Diet Cookbook. I love the recipes in here, all of the pictures, and the fact that the nutrition facts are listed. At the time, I was also reading the Omnivores Dilemma by Michael Pollan and realized that my diet needed a change. I decided to try cutting out soda and high fructose corn syrup for one month. This was difficult and often resulted in repeated explanations to family and friends. But it got me reading food labels and consciously thinking about what I was eating.
Of course, I didn’t give up alcohol (I love my glass of wine), but I learned a lot about what I was eating and putting into my body. I had a lot more energy to train for my first triathlon, but the biggest shock was that my skin (which was going through some late 20’s acne phase) totally cleared up.
