Labor day was filled with a labor-intensive run! I woke up this morning with a wicked sore throat. The BOY had a cold last week and I think he shared it with me. My throat was starting to get a little scratchy at the wedding last night, but I was hoping I’d be fine by this morning, especially since I had a long run planned. I woke up with a sore throat, aching obliques (from yesterday’s HOT yoga), and tight calves (from dancing in heels last night). But, it was a gorgeous day and with less than 5 weeks until the marathon, I was motivated to run. For breakfast, I had Scottish oats with a fresh peach and blueberries, and I packed a peanut butter and banana sandwich for after my run.
Luckily, I had my MOM meeting me at the trail for support. It was a beautiful clear morning and the temperature was close to 60 degrees. PERFECT running weather!!!
My Mom showed up with her bike and we headed out for a run.
I had planned on running the 7 mile loop two times, but as I headed out towards the path, I remembered that the trail is actually a 7.7 mile loop. I ran around chatting with my mom. The path was full of families out riding bikes and runners training for fall races. I started off strong pacing with my mom around 8:30 minute miles. I remembered my Gu this time which helped me through the second lap at ~9 minute miles (a little slower on the last few miles). Around 14 miles, I started to get tired, but my Mom cheered me on and I was able to complete 16.2 miles in a little over 2 and half hours. It was my LONGEST RUN EVER!!!
Needless to say I was parched and starving when I finished. My Mom had cold water in the car and I devoured my PB sandwich in just a few bites. This morning’s run was challenging, but it was so helpful to have my mom talking me through each mile. She helped make this run a success and boost my confidence for the upcoming marathon.
I was wiped out after this morning’s run. I ate a quick lunch and then went home for a nap. I spent the rest of the day on the couch watching Law and Order in my comfies with some stretching in between. I am hoping some rest and my Neti pot will get me over this cold quickly because I have places to be and miles to run!
